Portland’s SOULMATES: "Sweet Sexy Soul Live”

SOULMATES, the band that many of Portland’s great musicians call their favorite, is releasing their first DVD at a live performance at Jimmy Mak’s on Saturday, November 19th.

It’s art imitating life imitating art as the seasoned and storied SOULMATES do what they do best -- sultry jazz sounds, stinging blues, and raw funk, converging seamlessly in a stellar collective of soul. For those who want to take the band home with them, the group is releasing its first DVD SOULMATES: "Sweet Sexy Soul Live”

Veteran guitar slinger Jay “Bird” Koder brings his monster chops to the table, but with beautiful restraint that fits perfectly into the mold of the collective. Drummer Reinhardt Melz is quite simply one of the most respected drummers anywhere. His complex, odd meter playing can make it sound as if there are multiple drummers on the stage. Percussionist/Vocalist Jans Ingber adds his uniquely soulful falsetto voice and rock solid percussion to compliment Reinhart’s patterns. Topping it all off is keyboardist and vocalist Jarrod Lawson, who is blessed with a voice steeped in reverence for the great soul singers that have gone before him, while bringing a fresh unique approach and sound all his own.

More neo-soul and funk is added to the double-bill as the Gretchen Mitchell Band takes to the stage for a long awaited return to Portland.
